About Dave Mooney
Dave Mooney was born in southern New Jersey and grew up in Norwalk, CT, attending Norwalk public schools through the eighth grade and Fairfield Prep. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work by delivering newspapers, washing dishes in a restaurant, and working in a supermarket. He also learned the value of public service by volunteering at a retirement home and providing ‘safe rides’ to fellow students who might otherwise drive intoxicated.
From an early age, Mooney had a natural comfort with science and technology. At just eight years old he received his first computer – a Commodore 64 - as a Christmas present! Years later, he decided to pursue software engineering as a career, and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (BSE), Computer Science and Engineering.
"I was attracted to engineering because I saw that it could empower me to have a direct, positive impact on peoples’ lives around the world. At UConn I was trained to think through problems rationally and logically, and how to organize my thoughts. I tended to gravitate towards courses that were more practical than abstract because they would enable me to head straight into a position where I could develop products and services that have an immediate effect on peoples’ daily lives."
At age 24, Dave moved to Stratford to settle down with wife, Bonnie Reynolds – a lifelong Stratford resident and local Realtor. Bonnie and Dave have a home in Stratford Center on West Broad Street, a 1924 gem they lovingly restored with a lot of help from family and friends.
“Bonnie and I have never regretted choosing to settle down in Stratford. We love it here, and we’re here for the long haul. My parents and in-laws live in Stratford. I’ve never felt so much at home in a community.”
Dedicated to Progress through Grassroots Activism
Dave Mooney gained his first hands-on political experience as a campaign volunteer, knocking on doors and making phone calls to voters. Later on, he took a leave of absence from his job to leverage his technical and organizational skills as a full-time volunteer in the 2004 presidential election. Since then, he has become heavily involved local grassroots efforts as a member of the Stratford Democratic Town Committee, the Connecticut Young Democrats, and Fairfield County Democracy for America, a local activist group.
“Since dedicating myself to political change, I have devoted every spare moment - virtually every evening and weekend - to improving our government by supporting candidates I believe will make a positive difference, and by participating in grassroots efforts to reduce special interest influence in Hartford.
"The most important thing I’ve learned working in politics is that individuals who are prepared to work hard for what they believe in truly can make a difference. I am ready, willing and able to continue this effort on Stratford’s behalf as the next State Representative from the 120th Assembly District.”
Private Sector Experience in the Public Interest
Throughout his career, Dave Mooney has sought opportunities to leverage his skills to serve the public interest. He currently works at Fujifilm Medical Systems in Stamford, where his work helps to improve patient care and reduce medical costs at health care facilities around the world.
Previously Mooney worked at LinksPoint, a mobile technology solutions provider in Norwalk, where he designed software that aided in the recovery of remains after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In addition, he managed a project that used technology to improve the accountability and efficiency of New York City’s water, sewage, beach, and public pool inspection processes.
“I’m very proud of all of the important projects to which I’ve been able to contribute. While I intend to continue my engineering work when elected, my role as a public servant must and will always come first.”
